January often comes with a sense of possibility. A new year feels like a natural time to pause, reflect, and think about what we want more of in our lives. More energy. Better sleep. Feeling stronger or more confident in our bodies.
Healthy resets do not have to be dramatic or extreme to be meaningful. In fact, the changes that last the longest are usually the ones that fit gently into real life.
Starting With Lifestyle, Not Pressure
When people think about “getting healthier,” they often jump straight to rules or restrictions. But lasting health usually starts with simpler questions.
What matters most to me?
What feels doable right now?
What would make daily life feel a little easier or more enjoyable?
For some people, that might mean moving their body a bit more. For others, it might be improving sleep, eating more regularly, or feeling less overwhelmed by health decisions.
There is no single right way to reset. The best place to start is where you are.
Movement That Fits Your Life
Exercise does not need to look like a gym routine to be effective. Movement supports balance, strength, mood, and independence at every age. Some options that work well for many people include:
Walking outside or with a local walking group
Strength and balance classes like SilverSneakers
Chair yoga or gentle stretching
Light resistance training to support muscle and bone health
The goal is not intensity. The goal is consistency and finding something you can keep doing.
Eating Well Without Extremes
Nutrition is another area where simple often works better than strict. Rather than focusing on what to cut out, many people benefit from focusing on:
Eating regular meals
Including enough protein to support muscle health
Choosing fiber-rich foods
Staying hydrated
Eating in a way that fits cultural preferences and daily routines
Healthy eating should feel supportive, not stressful. There is no one-size-fits-all plan.
A Gentle Word About Medications and Supplements
January is also a time when many people add supplements or try new health products. Protein powders, creatine, metabolism boosters, and herbal supplements are especially popular at the start of the year.
These products can seem harmless, but they are not regulated the same way prescription medications are. Supplements can interact with medications, affect blood pressure or kidney function, and sometimes overlap in ingredients without people realizing it. If you take prescription medications or manage chronic conditions, it is important that supplements are part of the conversation with your healthcare team.
GLP-1 medications have also become part of many health conversations. For some individuals, they can be very helpful tools for blood sugar control and weight management. Like all medications, they work best when paired with education, nutrition support, hydration, and realistic expectations.
A new year is a wonderful time for a reset, but the safest and most effective changes are the ones built on education and compassion. Healthy resets do not have to be perfect. They just need to be thoughtful and sustainable. Questions about medications or supplements or how to incorporate movement into your lifestyle? Contact us to learn how we can support you.

January 1, 2026: Healthy Resets, Done Safely
When people ask me what a concierge pharmacy visit is, I usually describe it as a one-on-one session to review medications, answer questions, and provide recommendations. But that description doesn’t quite capture the heart of what really happens.
Most visits end up being 90% education and conversation. Patients often already have the prescriptions they need, but what they’re missing is confidence and clarity: Am I taking this the right way? What side effects should I watch for? Is there something I can do beyond just taking this pill? Do I need to take this medication forever?
That’s where a concierge visit shines. It’s not about rushing through a list of medications. It’s about creating space for people to share their concerns, ask questions they may not have had time to ask at the doctor’s office, and get thoughtful answers that fit into their real, everyday lives.
Starting With What Matters
Every concierge visit begins with a simple but powerful question: “What matters most to you?”
For some people, it’s wanting to feel more energetic. For others, it’s making sure their medications don’t interfere with sleep, exercise, or time with family. Starting here sets the tone: the visit isn’t about checking boxes - it’s about making medications work for you and your goals.
What These Conversations Can Look Like
Every patient is unique, but here are a few examples of where these conversations can lead:
Diet and Diabetes: What starts as a chat about blood sugar often turns into an exploration of different diabetes-friendly diets. Some patients thrive on a Mediterranean approach, others do better with smaller, balanced meals throughout the day. There is no one-size-fits-all plan, and that’s empowering to realize.
Poor Sleep: Sometimes sleep struggles come up. Instead of adding another medication, we’ve uncovered issues like a CPAP machine that needed repair. A simple referral for equipment service made all the difference in energy and rest.
Getting to Appointments: Transportation is a real barrier for many patients. I’ve had conversations where the best solution wasn’t about medications at all, but about connecting someone to Uber Health so they could reliably get to their doctor’s appointments.
Managing Side Effects: Alzheimer’s medications can sometimes cause disinhibition or bursts of energy. Rather than viewing this only as a problem, we’ve talked about safe ways to channel that energy, like joining a Silver Sneakers exercise class. It turns a side effect into an opportunity for movement and social engagement.
Creative Medication Management: Standard pill boxes don’t work for everyone. One patient didn’t have the dexterity to handle the tiny lids. The solution? Using oversized, labeled food-storage containers to create a giant “pill box” that was easy to open and organized enough to keep them on track. Sometimes it just takes thinking outside the box - literally.
Why This Matters
These examples all share something in common: the answers weren’t just in the medication bottles. They were in the conversations. Concierge visits create the space to step back, connect the dots, and find solutions that truly support health and quality of life.
For me, this is the warmer side of consulting - and it’s the reason I started Wright Geriatric Consulting. Behind every prescription is a person with goals, worries, and hopes. A concierge visit makes sure those are heard and respected.
If you’ve ever left a doctor’s visit with more questions than answers, or felt unsure about how your medications fit into daily life, a concierge pharmacy visit might be just what you need. It’s not only about managing prescriptions - it’s about helping you feel confident, supported, and cared for in the bigger picture of your health.

October 1, 2025: Conversations that Matter - the Heart of a Concierge Visit
Lately, I’ve had the chance to give several presentations on age-friendly care - and it really got me thinking. At the end of the day, most older adults want the same things: to feel good, stay independent, and live in a way that makes sense for them. That’s exactly what age-friendly care is all about.
Age-Friendly care focuses on what matters most, keeping things simple, and making sure each part of care helps support the life you want to live. This approach is built around something called the 4Ms - I use them every day in my work at Wright Geriatric Consulting. Let’s break them down and see how pharmacists can help with each one:
What Matters: Your goals, your values. Whether it’s gardening, babysitting your grandkids, or just feeling clear-headed every morning - your care should help you do what matters to you. This is always the first question I ask in a home visit as it tells me so much about the goal of our time together!
Medications: Some medicines that helped in the past might not be the best choice as we get older. I help review each one to see if it’s still needed, safe, and doing its job. (This removal of medications is generally called “deprescribing.”)
Mentation: Feeling confused, forgetful, or “off” isn’t just part of aging - it could be a sign of something fixable, like a medication side effect. We want your mind to stay sharp so you can continue doing activities that you love.
Mobility: Moving safely means living independently. Some medications increase the risk of falls and we keep a close eye on that. Staying mobile helps with strength, balance, and confidence.
Helping people live well - not just longer, but better - is what age-friendly care is all about. It’s simple, thoughtful, and built around you.
Whether I’m reviewing meds for someone at home or working with a care team in a facility, the 4Ms are always part of the conversation. If you’ve never heard of this approach before, I hope this gave you a helpful look at how it works - and why I believe in it so deeply.
As always, if you have questions or want to learn more about how a pharmacist can help, I’d love to connect.
Until next time,

May 1, 2025: Why Does Age-Friendly Care Matter?
Hello, and welcome to the first blog post for Wright Geriatric Consulting! My name is Abigail Wright, and I’m proud to introduce you to a pharmacy consulting practice dedicated to enhancing the lives of geriatric patients.
As a licensed pharmacist with years of experience in long-term care, I’ve seen firsthand how personalized, age-friendly care can profoundly impact patients’ health and quality of life. That’s why I founded Wright Geriatric Consulting - built on the core values of integrity, dignity, compassion, and excellence.
At Wright Geriatric Consulting, we take a unique approach to pharmacy consulting. We are guided by the 4Ms of Age-Friendly Care: What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility. This framework ensures that every recommendation we make aligns with the goals and well-being of the patient, while minimizing risks like polypharmacy or adverse drug events. While we don’t dispense medications, we offer trusted, high-quality pharmacy recommendations - always prioritizing patient safety and data confidentiality.
You may have noticed our logo - a pair of overlapping capsules forming a heart. This design reflects our commitment to providing compassionate care. The capsules represent our focus on medication safety, while the heart symbolizes the deep care and empathy we bring to our work. The green tones are a nod to health, healing, and growth. This logo signifies our dedication to fostering a healthy, age-friendly approach to pharmacy care, ensuring our patients receive the best possible outcomes.
A little about me - I’m a mom of two and love balancing family life with my passion for pharmacy. When I’m not working, I enjoy woodworking and finding antique pharmacy bottles, a hobby that connects me to the rich history of our profession. (You will find pictures of these bottles scattered around my website.) These interests remind me of the importance of tradition, hard work, and innovation - values I bring to Wright Geriatric Consulting every day.
This blog will be an extension of Wright Geriatric Consulting’s mission to educate and empower care teams, patients, and their families. Each month, I’ll share insights on topics like:
